- Your terminology is strange, but your point is very well taken.
- The typical local telephone loop is intended to have approximately
- a 9 dB difference in the transmit to receive level. In essense,
- the "Test Level Point" is considered to be 0 dBm0 for transmitting,
- and -9 dBm0 for receiving.

- Hence, a 9 dB pad might improve things greatly because the receive
- side of the modem is being significantly over driven. I would
- suggest an even larger pad, say 12 dB, might be even better. Also
- note that it probably will work fine with a 900 ohm pad, but 600
- would be better. Just be sure to use a balanced configuration for
- the pad.
